The Smith Co. High Lady Owls basketball team reached the title game for the second year in-a-row of the 16-team girls field of the Kentucky Bank Classic in Bourbon County, (Paris) Kentucky.
The tourney’s defending champions, the Lady Owls lost Sunday’s 2008 championship to Marion Co., Ky. 55-44 — their first loss in four outings in the three-day event — to bring their season record to 12-3.
The Lady Owls handed Bryan Station a 61-55 loss on Friday followed by back-to-back victories on Saturday — 62-37 over Bryan Station and 63-55 over Boyle Co.

Coach Scott Apple’s Smith Co. High Owls basketball team were scheduled to face District 8A’s Merrol Hyde on Monday of this week with the winner earning the right to face East Robertson the following day at 2:30 p.m. in loser’s bracket action of this week’s Nera White Christmas Tournament in Lafayette.
The Owls, now 1-9 on the year, lost their tourney opener to District 8A Westmoreland, 66-39.

The Smith Co. Owl football team made a big haul at the Region 4-2A Banquet on Sunday, December 7th at Nick’s in Cookeville,
Owl head coach Jimmy Maynord was named the Region 4-2A Coach of the Year as his Owl team was crowned the Region Champions with a 9-3 mark.
Owl offensive coordinator Chuck Gentry was named the Offensive Assistant Coach of the Year as his Owl offense averaged 333 yards a game.
Several Owls were named as superlatives in the region as Jeremy Robinson was named co-MVP of Region 4-2A along with Ty Fields of Upperman.
Cody Anderson was named the Defensive MVP of Region 4-2A. The senior free safety was the quarterback of the Owl defense which gave up only 10.5 points per game.
